A man aged 92 was knocked to the ground in a “sickening” assault by a mugger for just £5.
The pensioner, a “fiercely independent” widower who lives alone, was attacked in the lobby of a tower block in Soho as he returned from a shopping trip.
He was waiting for a lift with a newspaper and small shopping trolley when the suspect approached.
The attacker, a black male in his 20s, reached into the man’s pocket, slammed him against a door and pushed him to the floor. He stole his wallet containing £5 and fled.
Today the pensioner defiantly spoke of his determination to carry on as normal and said he would not put him off going out alone.
He spoke out as police released CCTV footage of the attack and appealed for help in identifying the assailant.
The 92-year-old, who did not want to be named, said: “Yes, I’ve been out shopping since. At night it’s an empty street and I’m walking very slowly…I can look after myself physically.
